Interactive Kids Art Gallery

The Draw-Back ecard has proved incredibly popular. First created to celebrate National Grandparents Day in 2005, it's since been updated for other occasions and Entara plan to roll it out a couple of times every year.

The gallery allows kids to engage in a rich form of storytelling even when they do not have a full grasp of writing skills. How do they do it? They simply draw.

The Jakers! Draw-Back Gallery, unlike a standard gallery, the uses the Draw-Back ecard engine to draw back the illustrations as you watch!

A search tool enables users to find specific works of art or simply to browse selected subjects - try searching for 'gran' and you'll find pictures of the kid's grandparents.

An approval tool allows Entara's admin team to approve or reject illustrations before they are posted on to the live server. This tool features an accelerated drawing routine to cut down on the time it takes to administer the submissions.

And the results?

It's been a phenomenal success - by far the most popular activity on the Jakers! website. The gallery is open for submissions for only a few days a year and yet it has received over 66,000 drawings. Some days see over 1,000 submissions.

During the times when the Gallery is closed for submissions kids send in fanmail asking when it will be open again. When it is open kids invite their friends to see their drawings and submit their own. All this leads to an increase in traffic to the site and an ever changing entertaining activity.

PBS were so impressed with the activity that they asked Entara to present the Draw-back Gallery at the PBS KIDS Interactive Producers' Summit as a model activity for other producers to imitate.
